@nepenthes59 Yeah, it’s pretty horrible. And unfortunately not just caused by heavy rains but also, apparently, by policy:
https://t.co/nnB1YHzqeF @nepenthes59 And not even for the first time: the same happened during his previous stint as mayor, and people posted the same complaints. (This is from 2011.)

Okay, apparently the bill failed in 2021. I failed to check before retweeting. It was actually proposed though, and I expect more of the same. But yeah, this law doesn’t exist (yet).

“Charges of overexposure”?
I wish authorities here had the zeal to enforce *traffic law* even a tenth as much as social conservatism.
(Say what you like about motorbiking in beachwear, but it shouldn’t get more reaction than the insanely hazardous driving I see daily here.) twitter.com/koryodynasty/s… -
@KateSherrod Right, there’s always that possibility (and I think bad faith arguments are dirt common too), but I mean when people actually (if stupidly) believe X is crucial and then fail follow through and see that the conditions they’re insisting on undercut X being possible. @KateSherrod I guess I am saying that I often see the failure to connect dots stemming from an apparent inability (rather than a conscious, strategic refusal) to connect the dots. Is that still a “bad faith argument”?
Maybe “shortsighted” or “stupid” or “thoughtless” is the word. I dunno.
-
Is there a word for this dynamic? I mean where people argue X is crucial and necessary, but then also insist on that X continue under conditions that essentially guarantee X will be unsustainable and will inevitably collapse.
You’d think there is a term, but can’t find one. twitter.com/19joho/status/…

@lukarejec @AntonHur A book by Myung Hoon Bae:
https://t.co/s5sdYjtXDc @lukarejec @AntonHur Bora Chung’s Cursed Bunny is another, this one translated by @AntonHur.

There’s more in the pipeline (so I hear), and probably some others already out that I haven’t mentioned. It’s been a busy few years! -
@lukarejec @AntonHur Another collection of Bo-Young Kim short stories (mostly SF):

@lukarejec @AntonHur I really enjoyed Bo-Young Kim’s I’m Waiting for You, which was published by Harper Collins:
https://t.co/mu6PRpISef @lukarejec @AntonHur This was the first modern English translation anthology of South Korean SF:

@lukarejec @AntonHur So, the easy start is that there’s a bunch of stories over at Clarkesworld, from a big 2019 project. Start here and work your way forward:
https://t.co/az6Kxtj1vy
There’s about a year’s worth of stories, mostly SF. @lukarejec @AntonHur (Disclosure?) My wife and I helped with/contributed to that project.
There’s also an earlier science-fantasy story we translated for Clarkesworld:

Funny thing about young men who vehemently deny that gender inequality still exists:
They’re the ones who inevitably do a tiny portion of the required coursework, and then email me to demand a grade equal to female peers who did all their coursework.
Like, EVERY DAMNED TIME. I always want to point this out, but I hold back because rampant xenophobia and misogyny ago hand in hand, so instead of hearing what a “foreigner” says, they’ll just accuse me of “unfairness” or “racism” or “cultural ignorance.”

Youtube has decided I should know about Akira Ishikawa and His Count Buffalos.
